Meet Dr. Elise Rackoff

Dr. Elise Rackoff

Dr. Rackoff grew up in Abingdon, Virginia, and attended both college and medical school at the University of Virginia, where she loved living on the Lawn and graduated with honors. Venturing out of the mountains, she completed her internship and dermatology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she also met her husband, Andy. Her interest in medicine and scientific research led to numerous publications throughout her training, establishing a strong academic foundation that continues to inform her thoughtful, evidence-based approach to patient care.

After completing her residency, she joined Andy in Florida for three years while he completed his gastroenterology fellowship. No worries—she stayed focused on the outside of the body while he focused on the inside! And with all that Florida sunshine, there was certainly plenty of sun damage to keep her busy.

The Rackoffs moved to Asheville in 2009 and have lived in—and loved—the mountains ever since. After more than 15 years practicing locally, Dr. Rackoff considers the relationships she’s built with her patients one of the most rewarding parts of her career. She’s delighted to continue caring for familiar faces while getting to know new patients along the way.

Life outside the office is also busy. Drs. Rackoff have four children—the oldest is currently in veterinary school in Minnesota, while the younger three are still exploring closer to home. Between ultimate frisbee, paddling on the French Broad, soccer, and family hiking and camping adventures, there’s rarely a dull moment.

When she’s not practicing dermatology or playing mama bear and transporter of busy younger humans, Dr. Rackoff loves to cook, travel near and far, garden, and run the local trails with her husband.
